Beloved, do you know that just a glimpse of the Glory of God is what you need to take you from this realm you are to a realm higher that you dreams. Wait a minute, if I am to ask you to tell me what you know about God, what will you tell me? I am very sure you are most likely to go ahead and ‘borrow’ those fantastic vocabularies you’ve heard people use in qualifying God, you will say He is the Most High, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscience, the Lord the healer, the Lord the shepherd, Jehovah, and a host of all those big and weighty words to talk about God.
But I want to you to stop and reason. Have you actually found God to be so in your day to day-to-day living? You will tell me he is the might Healer, but have you felt the touch of His mighty hand lifting you out of sickness into divine health? You will tell me that God is a man of war, but have you come to issues and situations in your life in which you saw Him (as if it was physical) go ahead of you to fight your battles that just as Jehoshaphat had it (2 Chronicles 20) you had to go and pack the spoils after the battle which was fought and worn on your behalf solely by God?. You will tell me He is a great Provider. But in your day to day living do you speak and act like someone who is used to miraculous provisions; one who knows that once he places a request on the heavens about a thing, heavens cannot decline? One who can wait for it because he knows God is bringing it and He cannot possible come late.
Beloved, if you were actually going to tell me some things about God, what will you say? Are you going to tell me about what you heard people say about Him or what you read in the bible about God or things you’ve daily experience God has? Although I’ve not heard your responses, but I know it is most likely that you would have religiously painted God to be will those revered titles will be very much different from whom you have personally experienced of God. Today, just like Jesus asked his disciples (after they’re told him many things that people said about Him
“He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God”. (Luke 9:20 KJV+)
Those wonderful tittles you hear today ascribed to God were named at one time or the other in the past by certain individuals who had a personal and peculiar encounter with God and He revealed Himself to them in that way. Those names were gotten when God revealed Himself to men in particular dimensions. M any times the names depicts what God was set to do in his relationship into the person or persons who henceforth began to call God by that name.
For instance, when you hear Abraham and Isaac, refer to God as God Almighty, they know what they are saying.
“And God spoke unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them”. (Exodus 6:2-3 KJV+)
Wherever you read in the bible when God was refereed as the fear of Isaac (Genesis 31: 42) it was not for fun. Jacob must have grown up to know that there is a personality that his father Isaac has great reverential fear for. To add to that Jacob himself actually trembled at the revelation he first received at Bethel.
“And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven”. (Genesis 28:17 KJV+)
Thus after that event, he began to refer to God as the fear of Isaac.
“The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac”. (Genesis 31:53 KJV+)
When you hear God being referred to as ‘the man war’, the generation of the children of Israel that came out of Egypt will tell you better the meaning of that title. They saw the host of pharaoh’s army being swallowed up in the sea. Thus they sang;
“The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name”. (Exodus 15:3 KJV+)
King Jehoshaphat have volumes of personal experiences tell you about the truthfulness of his title of God. In 2 Chronicles. 20:16-25, he how saw God fought for Israel.
“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you. And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshiping the LORD”. (2 Chronicles 20:17-18 KJV+)
When you hear David say; “ … God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”. (Psalms 46:1 KJV+). He knows what he is saying God has proved himself to him in that dimension. That is why he would be able to say clearly; “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” (Psalms 118:6 KJV+)
Beloved, why won’t you be like Gideon and ask;
“… Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites”. (Judges 6:13 KJV+)
Why won’t you ask, “if indeed God is the mighty deliverer, Might healer, great provider, God of all flesh, the man of war etc, why am I not having those personal experiences of the reality of these dimensions of God? The fact is that without this, the whole Christianity in your life can just be regarded as theory and not different from any of those human brewed theories.
But before you ask God that question, you need to first ask yourself this question; are you doing what the men of old did that resulted into those fantastic experiences of God? If you have not done what they did you can not have their results. These men and women had personal report with God. They had a personal relationship with God. They yielded their lives and everything they had to God. All of them had other alternatives but they decided to choose God’s way. The wisdom and pranks of the world were there but these people decided to wait on God only. They placed all their expectations on God. Check through the bible, they all reared personal altars to God; altars of dedication, obedience, loyalty, praise, love and prayers. Everything in their lives was focused unto God. These people got the understanding that by strength shall no man prevail. These were men who did not rely on their own understanding in their finances, marital lives and jobs. They decided to obey the word of God even when it was very much alien to the reasoning of man.
And you know what happened? As they continued in the daily and steady walk with God in obedience and service in His vineyard, God began to reveal Himself to them in deeper dimensions. A step at a time, thy began to catch a better glimpse of God’s personality. Beginning from small issues of life, they began to learn how to leave things in the hands of God after they have fully obeyed all God asked them to do. Just like that they found that God showed up at the every time of time to prove His faithfulness to his word.
Gideon was somebody like that. After he had obeyed God by destroying the alter of Baal in his fathers house, he began to catch a better picture of how far God’s faithfulness can take him, a glimpse at a time when he put out fleece before God (Judges 6: 39). Before you know it, his faith has become strong enough to grasp the word of God and stand up to fight thousands of soldiers with only 300 men. (Judges 7). After the war, if you hear Gideon calling God by a particular name (after of his victory) then know that flesh and blood has not revealed it unto him. He gave himself up for God and started to catch a glimpse of God’s personality in each step of his relationship with God.
Do you know if actually you begin to experience the reality of God’s personality in the wonderful dimensions depicted in those wonderful titles men of old called God in the Bible, your life cannot be like this anymore. You will certainly be lifted higher than your wildest imaginations. Imagine if God begin to reveal himself to you as the I AM WHO I AM, you will stand before every pharaoh in this world as a god (deity)
If you are interested in seeing God at work in your life better, you have to start a really deep relationship with God. Not just going to church, but yielding yourself to God, saying ‘No’ to sin and all its deceitfulness and painstaking obeying the word God. Begin to build a personal altar of obedience, praise, prayer, worship, fasting. Consecration to God. Begin to lose confidence in the arm of flesh. Pick the scriptures. See them as real and living, Ask for the Holy Ghost to come into your life and fill you up. Tell Him that you have a personate desire to begin a genuine walk with God. I trust that gentle Holy Ghost, as you obey him you will begin to have a brighter picture of God a glimpse at a time.
